Volunteer and make a difference!
The 5th North Devon Scout Group is a lively and growing Scout Group within the community.
In order for us to make the most of the opportunities, we have available for the young people within the group we are looking to fill the following volunteer vacancies.
All the vacancies listed below can be carried out in a flexible manner, meeting the individuals capacity to fulfil the roles. Sharing of roles is encouraged.
Beaver Section
Young Leaders (YL) – Beavers
- Explorer Scout (aged 14-18) help the adults with planning & delivering Scouting activities
Cub Section
Cubs to Scouts Joining & Moving up leader
- Be responsible for overseeing the joining of new Cubs to the Pack
- Be responsible for overseeing successful moving up of Cubs to Scouts
- To follow-up on the reason why a Cubs leaves the group especially after moving to Scouts
Young Leaders (YL) – Cubs
- Explorer Scout (aged 14-18) help the adults with planning & delivering Scouting activities
Scout Section
Group Young Leader – Leader
Scouts to Explorers Joining & Moving up leader & Young Leader Manager
- Be responsible for overseeing the joining of new Scouts to the Troop
- Be responsible for overseeing successful moving up of Scouts to Explorers
- To follow-up on the reason why a Scouts leaves scouting especially after moving to Explorers
- Integrate New Young Leaders into their section
- Ensure that they attend training sessions
- Ensure that they get the opportunities to be involved in the planning and running of evening programs etc.
Additional roles, can be either uniformed or non-uniform
District and Group Event Co-ordinator Leader
- Be responsible for overseeing All group activities
- Be responsible for overseeing the groups involvement in District Events
- Plan and coordinate the AGMand Presentation Evenings
- To act as a Charity Trustee of the Group
Group Fund raising Leader (Part of and reporting to the Fund Raising Executive Member)
- Be responsible for overseeing the individual section fund raising events
- Be responsible for overseeing and running/lead the Groups fund raising events
Quarter Master/Assistant Quarter Master (Building, Grounds and Equipment team)
- Maintain the Group’s stores and equipment, identifying items required
- Liaise with Section Leaders re the use and transport of equipment
- Report to the Building Manager
HQ and Ground Maintenance & Cleaning Team (Building, Grounds and Equipment team)
- Maintain the Group’s HQ and grounds
Assistant Chairman Executive Committee Member
- To attend relevant meetings
- To act as a Charity Trustee of the Group
- Help arrange fundraising activities, AGM etc.
Executive Committee Member
- To attend relevant meetings
- To act as a Charity Trustee of the Group
- Help arrange fundraising activities, AGM etc
Media/Communication Manager
- Provide publicity for the Group through all media types e.g. village newsletter, local newspaper, Social Media
- Liaise with District and County teams
- To act as a Charity Trustee of the Group
Newsletter Editor (Media/Communication team)
- Design, co-ordinate and issue a Group newsletter to all families /supporters
- Liaise with young people, Section Leaders and Executive Committee to obtain content
Web Master (Media/Communication team)
- Design and maintain an up-to-date Group web site
Group Scout Active Support Unit(GSASU) Manager
Group Scout Active Support Unit(GSASU) Members
- This applies to anyone who can perhaps offer their own skills, knowledge, and time to help just once or twice a year. Examples include:
- Offer to run an evening activity for a Section based on either a hobby (anything from astronomy to sailing and hill walking to cooking) or a job (anything from nurse to ornithologist and police officer to farmer)
- Help on a regular basis with just one specific fundraiser each year e.g. setting up for Big Breakfast or helping arrange bag packing rota’s
- Offering to arrange and run a Section or Group event (could be anything from a Family Fun event to a visit to a Fire Station
- Volunteering to take part in sleepovers and camps, especially overnight
