How parents can help:
By supporting your young person:
When they are organising, preparing or taking part in events. When they are completing work for badges. By attending as many of the activities, community work and parades as possible. Ensure they arrive at Scouting evenings in correct uniform and arriving at events and parades in full, clean and smart uniform (black trousers/skirts, black shoes – No trainers or jeans).Join the Executive Committee:
The management and fund raising for the group is carried out by the parents of the scout council/group. This allows the Leaders to get on with their job of preparing and planning balanced programmes. Any major decisions are made by the Executive Committee as representatives of all parents of the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts of the group.
Becoming a Leader:
It takes a lot of time and dedication to run a section in the Scout Group, and adult leaders are always needed to make it happen. It’s a voluntary commitment but is also great fun. There are loads of opportunities to get outside and do activities that you may never have had the chance to try, or maybe you could train young people in skills and sports which you enjoy participating in. There is backup and training and you are never left on you own.
If you do not have the time to be a leader but have particular skills that could benefit the group then you can be an occasional or specialist helper. The possibilities for this are endless; perhaps you could do an activity like cooking, arts and crafts or outdoor activities.
Fund Raising:
There are many ways funds can be raised for the group and some of these require time during the week day, whereas others are carried out on the weekend or week day evenings. If you can offer a little amount of time per year then please contact us so that we can discuss with you the best form of activity to suit you and the time you can give it.
Please speak to any of the Section Leaders if you feel you can help in any way.
A Scouting CRB form is required to be completed for all the above posts.
